About
Safety advice, minus the hype.
The editorial values behind every page on this site.
Editorial standards
No hype. No scare tactics. Just useful options.
No victim-blaming
Violence is always the responsibility of the person who chooses violence. Safety habits may create options. They don't create immunity, and they don't determine whether someone “deserved” harm.
No fake certainty
We don't teach that you can identify dangerous people by a look, a demographic, a single gesture, an outfit, or a feeling. We teach context, patterns, boundaries, exits, and support.
No hype
We don't use shock, graphic stories, or worst-case fantasy to keep your attention. Anxiety isn't education.
No posturing
You don't need to become a fighter, a cop, an intelligence agent, or a walking security camera. You need practical options that work for ordinary human lives.
Accessibility matters
Safety isn't one-size-fits-all. Advice should account for disability, mobility, sensory needs, caregiving, location, work, identity, culture, finances, and personal history.
Evidence-aware, not certainty-obsessed
We distinguish between useful concepts, professional experience, evidence, and uncertainty. We avoid presenting theory as guaranteed fact.
Content note
What this site is — and isn't.
This site is designed for general education. It doesn't replace emergency services, local authorities, individualized safety planning, medical care, legal advice, or specialized support for domestic violence, stalking, sexual violence, human trafficking, or crisis situations.
If you're in immediate danger, call your local emergency number now. In Canada, that is 911.

Built to be usable, not just readable.
- Skip links, keyboard navigation, and visible focus rings.
- Color is never the only signal — text and icons carry meaning too.
- Body text at 20px with high contrast against the background.
- A reduced-motion option respected automatically via your system settings.
- Alt text on illustrations and transcripts available for any audio.
Privacy
We don't need your story.
You can use every tool on this site without an account. Your safety plan, checklists, and habit progress stay in your browser, on your device.
We don't ask you to disclose trauma, location, identity, relationship details, or personal experiences. The newsletter collects only your first name and email.
Terms
The short version.
Leave Early provides general safety education, not emergency, legal, medical, or mental-health advice. You're responsible for your own decisions. Violence is always the responsibility of the person who chooses violence.

Transparency
How Leave Early is funded.
Support can fund education. It does not sit beside crisis. Sponsors never control our guidance, resources, or emergency content — and never appear inside them.
